The answer to what makes a good guided meditation may seem obvious, but maybe it isn’t.  The guided meditation is one in which a narrator ~ a guide basically  ~ takes you on a relaxing “journey.” This guided meditation journey is safe, easy, and protected. This journey is blissful. This journey helps you get rid of stress, connect to Source energy, and ground, balance, and center yourself.

A good guided meditation is one in which you will be able to easily “escape” your challenges and troubles for a few moments ~ whether that is 2 or 3 minutes or 15 minutes or more ~ and connect your mind, body, and spirit to pure peace and relaxation; reconnect to yourself.

What to look for in a good guided meditation

There are a lot of guided meditations out there these days.  But all are not created equal. The first thing to notice and connect with is the narrator’s voice. If the voice doesn’t feel and sound soothing to you in the first 10 seconds or so, this probably isn’t the best meditation for you. The voice carries frequencies and vibrations of the soul, so if you aren’t connecting with it from the get-go, it’s not going to be effective.

The next thing to look for in a guided meditation ~ and particularly in a video meditation ~ is the imagery as well as the “journey” itself.  Some video mediation makers just pick one or two slides and show those throughout the entire meditation. If you’re looking for an “escape,” this kind of meditation then probably won’t be the right choice for you.

The imagery in a good video meditation is imagery you can connect with and on an emotional body level.  This kind of connection will help you establish an integration between your mind, your body, and your spirit. That’s what we want in an effective video meditation: Integration of mind, body, and spirit, so that you can go about your day feeling empowered and happy instead of stressed out and overwhelmed.

The music or soundtrack in any meditation is very important as well. This is because music works on an emotional body level. Music, like the voice, is frequency and vibration. If the music in a meditation is irritating to you or distracting on some level, you’re not going to be able to completely relax and derive all the great benefits from your meditation. So, music, narrator’s voice, imagery, and the “journey” itself, are all important points to consider.

Can I meditate without a “guide?”

Sure you can. See our article “How to Meditate.” Simplified, Here’s how you do it:  Get into a comfortable position. Spine straight. Clear your mind. Ground and center yourself. Focus on your breathing. Breathe in and breathe out. Follow the breath through your body. Relax and breathe. Breathe and relax. Allow yourself to connect up to Source energy.  Create a sanctuary with  visualization techniques. Sit quietly. No mind chatter.  Have no expectations about what should or should not happen. When you feel completely peaceful, slowly come back to your physical awareness feeling relaxed and refreshed. See? Easy.
