It’s a common question, “Where are my chakras?” And there is misconception about where the chakras are located.
Although you don’t need to be able to see them in order to meditate, as part of your “spirit body,” the chakras are involved in meditation. So it’s important to know the answer to the question, “Where are my chakras located?”
The chakra diagram here gives a simplified, basic overview so that you understand each chakra’s location. Here we are addressing only the seven basic chakras.
Starting at the base is chakra #1. And then they are numbered up from there, with the 7th, or crown chakra being at the top of the head, located in the “baby soft spot,” essentially.
The root chakra is the “seat of creation.” It is not “at the base of the spine,” per se, or in the “hip area,” or “behind you,” as is so often taught. Plain and simple, the root chakra (1st chakra), is in the genital area and its energy comes straight down from there.
We also have chakras at the bottoms of our feet (and in the center of our hands as well). In meditation, we talk about running a grounding cord down from the root chakra and from the bottoms of both your feet. These grounding cords are indicated in red on our diagram here. Just think of these as being a “three pronged plug,” and you’ve got it.
Chakras are not just in the front. They extend front to back. Chakras are not “cone shaped,” per se, as is so often taught. They are more like flowers, with each one being structured in layers and “petals.”
They don’t “spin clockwise” per se, as is so often taught. Their movement is more like undulations – like flowers in slow motion. In the center of each chakra, however, is a kind of “vortex.” And this center vortex does spin clockwise at its center. Each person’s chakras are different and unique, like snowflakes.
Each chakra has a different function. (We have covered this in a different article, “How Do I Meditate”). But it isn’t necessary to be able to see your chakras in order to meditate. However, now that you know the answer to the question, “Where are my chakras?” you will be able to have even more effective and beneficial meditations.
One of our great video meditations here, that will take you on a “journey” through all of your chakras, is “A Healing Journey.”
